Which VP Candidate Would Best Serve?

Katie Couric hasn't done so well in her new position as anchor or CBS News, but in her recent series of interviews with the vice presidential candidates, particularly with Gov. Sarah Palin, she has done this country a tremendous service. If you'll watch this video in its entirety, I think you'll understand there's one candidate who is prepared to take on the mantle of the presidency and defend the constitution...and there's one who simply isn't:

Okay, okay, okay -- she hasn't memorized the Supreme Court decisions. Biden is articulate, but slippery, too.

I went to law school over 19 years ago and would struggle to answer questions about which Supreme Court decisions I disagreed with. So would Katie Couric. In the end, it does not matter. All Obama has to do is not fall down and the election is his. In addition to being a good candidate (good looking, well-educated, articulate), luck has broken his way in both the primary and the general election. In the primary I do not believe he would have defeated Hillary had the chief issue been the economy. Instead, it was the war. Now, in the general election, the issue is no longer the war (which I think would have made it very difficult for Obama to defeat McCain), but rather the economy due to a massive economic breakdown that both Republicans and Democrats ignored until it was too late (query, would have Romney defeated McCain had the economy been the chief issue of the Repupublican primary?). Neither Ronald Reagan nor Abraham Lincoln (both famous Republicans) would have won an election after the economic breakdown we have experienced. I hope Obama will govern as a pragmatist and not as the idealogue I fear.

You may have a point about Obama's luck. As for whether he's a pragmatist or an idealogue, I believe I'll try to address that in my next post. It may be a week or so, since I'm rather busy mailing out my novel to potential reviewers, but I do believe I read an interesting article that tackled that very issue. I'll try and find it and post something about it.
